8 Ways to Make Your iPhone Yours

Sure your iPhone is great, but imagine it even better! How? We’ll walk you through 8 ways you can customize your settings to make your iPhone the best that it can be–for you.

  1. Change Siri’s Voice

If you have your phone updated to iOS 14.5 or later, you can choose which Siri voice you’d like to hear. Choose from American, Australian, British, Indian, Irish, and South African as well as four different voices, both male and female. For iOS 15.4 and later, a gender-neutral voice option is also available.

HOW: Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Voice.

  2. Face ID with Face mask

A must for the current times, you can now unlock your phone even when wearing a face mask! (iOS 15.4 and later). Turn on this option for a smoother iPhone experience.

HOW: Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Face ID With a Mask (You can toggle between turning this on and off!)

  3. Choose Your Default Apps

Tired of having to access links through Safari or send emails through Mail? You can change that! This allows you to tap any link or email send button on your iPhone and automatically be directed to the web browser or email provider of your choice (iOS 14 and later).

HOW: Settings > Scroll to find the app that you would like to set as your default (Chrome, Firefox Outlook, etc.) > Default Mail App or Default Browser App > Select the app instead of the default Mail or Safari. You’re all set!

  4. Tidy Up Your Home Screen

The Apple App Library currently allows you to remove apps from your home screen without deleting them, storing them in a place where you can access them later to keep your home screen clean and tidy! Achieve the minimal look by adjusting your settings so that any and all new apps are installed into your App Library rather than your Home Screen. If you find yourself forgetting about all the apps in your library, switch back to installing to your Home Screen with the same setting adjustment. (iOS 14 and later)

HOW: Settings > Home Screen > Add to Home Screen or App Library Only

  5. Conserve Your Battery

Turn on dark mode if you’d like to conserve your iPhone’s battery! Dark mode adjusts white backgrounds in apps to a black background in almost all cases. The darker colors means your phone doesn’t have to expend extra energy to keep your screen bright, saving your eyes and your battery!

HOW: Settings > Display & Brightness > Dark

  6. Read With Ease

Adjust the font size on your phone screen to make your reading experience as easy as ever! You can increase or decrease the size of your text and even turn on Bold Text.

HOW: Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size (Below the Text Size button, you can turn on Bold Text)

  7. Boost Your Ringer

Never miss a call again! Increase the volume of your ringer and alerts.

HOW: Settings > Sounds & Haptics > There is a slider for Ringer and Alerts; move it to the right to increase the ringer volume. BONUS: Change your ringtone to one of the many options listed under Ringtone.

  8. Enable Voice Control

For a hands-free iPhone experience, enable Voice Control! This will allow you to speak commands like “Tap Mail” and even edit text. (iOS 13 and later)

HOW: Settings > Accessibility > Voice Control > Turn on Voice Control

Note that if you’re turning on Voice Control for the first time, you must be connected to Wi-Fi in order to download the necessary file. Once that’s done, you’re all set.

Go ahead, make your iPhone yours!
