iPhone 13 Going on 14: Meet the New Generation

The iPhone is now officially a generation older! Introducing the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max, released this September from Apple. Here’s everything you need to know about the new and improved iPhones.

Here are the major design and price stats for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus:

  1. SIZE: 6.1” (iPhone 14), and 6.7” (iPhone 14 Plus)

  2. PRICE: Starts at $799 for the iPhone 14, $899 for the 14 Plus

  3. STORAGE: Starts at 128 GB

  4. COLORS: Blue, Purple, Midnight, Starlight, PRODUCT(RED)

  5. BATTERY LIFE: Some of the highest ever on the 14 Plus, with up to 26 hours of video playback. The iPhone 14 also has great battery life with up to 20 hours video playback.

When it comes to upgrades, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus both have an improved camera system and battery life (up to 20 hours vs. up to 19 hours) from the previous generation of the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 also introduces Crash Detection Technology. This new feature can detect the occurrence of severe car crashes and will automatically dial emergency services if you are unresponsive following the crash. In addition, the Emergency SOS via satellite feature prompts you with questions, then shares that information with Apple’s specialists, who can call emergency services for you and share your location data.

Now you might be wondering if there’s a new iPhone 14 that upgrades the current iPhone 13 mini (5.4”). Apple did not make another mini iPhone for this generation; however, if you prefer a more compact phone, you can still purchase the iPhone 13 mini starting from $599!

Apple did make two other iPhone 14 models that might be a great fit for you: the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Let’s run through the basics:

  1. SIZE: 6.1” (iPhone 14 Pro), and 6.7” (iPhone 14 Pro Max)

  2. PRICE: Starts at $999 for the Pro, $1,099 for the Pro Max

  3. STORAGE: Starts at 128 GB

  4. COLORS: Deep Purple, Gold, Silver, and Space Black

  5. BATTERY LIFE: The Pro Max has the best of all the 14s, with up to 29 hours video playback. The Pro has a solid maximum of 26 hours of video playback.

So, what sets the Pro and Pro Max apart from the other two iPhone 14 models?

  1. Always-On Display

Both the Pro and Pro Max feature a new Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion that features the Always-On display (for the first time on iPhones!). This means that your Lock Screen keeps the time, widgets, and Live Activities available whenever you need them. It also means that your screen’s highest brightness is twice as high as that of the iPhone 13 Pro.

  2. Dynamic Island

This new interface system shows you important alerts, notifications, and activities. The design “maintains an active state to allow users easier access to controls with a simple tap-and-hold,” without getting in the way of your current on-screen content.

  3. The Best Camera System Yet

Apple notes a “dramatic increase in quality” with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max’s camera system, allowing better colors and more detail in every shot.

    1. One way Apple has achieved this is by implementing a new Main camera with a quad-pixel sensor, that adjusts its settings based on the photo you’re taking.

    2. There are many other improvements to the cameras, including a new Action mode that provides stable footage even amidst action-based environments, as well as an improved long distance Telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

When it comes to upgrading your iPhone then, the question is: Which features matter the most to you?

If Crash Detection is a must, then any of the new iPhone 14 models will be a great fit for you. Looking for a better camera to take even higher quality photos? The Pro and Pro Max are both the latest and greatest when it comes to Apple’s camera technology. And if you like larger screens, the Plus or Pro Max are your best bets.

The new generation of Apple iPhones puts accessibility and safety at the forefront, another step forward in technological innovation. As you continue onward in your tech journey, always remember that we’re right by your side to educate and assist.
